Michelle McKenzie graduated from Pepperdine University in May 2006 with a Master of Arts degree in Psychology. She plans to continue her studies in a PhD program focusing on sexual assualt research, in addition to being an active figure in the rape prevention movement. Michelle graduated Phi Beta Kappa from California State University, Long Beach in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and a minor in psychology.
Michelle volunteered with Women and Youth Supporting Each Other in 2002, working with junior high girls to promote awareness on numerous topics impacting women. She spoke to the girls in lecture settings and one-on-one mentoring. She then volunteered at the Sexual Assault Crisis Agency in Long Beach, CA where she became a California state certified rape crisis counselor. At the agency, she answered hotline calls and spoke to sexual assault victims about their experiences. She also accompanied women to hospitals for medical exams post-victimization in order to act as a support for the survivors and their families. She is currently speaking at rape awareness events as a member of the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network Speaker's Bureau. She is also received training at the Sexual Assault Crisis Agency to be a public speaker for rape prevention.
Michelle began her published writing career with poetry, which she continues to enjoy writing. Her memoir about date rape, Unfettered, is currently seeking representation. In addition to writing, she enjoys creating ceramic artwork, collage art, sewing and photography.
